Outpatient Cardiology in Katy and Sugar Land

Can I Walk In to See a Cardiologist?

Advanced Cardiology is an outpatient cardiology practice, not an emergency room. If you have a new or ongoing heart concern that is not an emergency, please call us at (713) 258-6111 before you come in. Our staff can tell you whether a same-day evaluation is possible, which office to visit, and what to bring. Same-day visits depend on the schedule and cannot be guaranteed.

Visits take place at our two offices with Adnan Khalid, MD, the practice’s cardiologist, supported by our office team:

  • Sugar Land office: 7102 Tarrington Ave, Suite 505, Sugar Land, TX 77479

  • Katy office: 410 W Grand Pkwy S, Suite 4D, Katy, TX 77494

Office hours may differ by location, so please call to confirm hours for each office. You can also send an appointment request; our staff will contact you to schedule.

Outpatient Heart Care

What Can an Outpatient Cardiology Visit Help With?

An office visit is meant for heart concerns that are not emergencies, and for ongoing care of known conditions. Dr. Khalid may evaluate concerns such as:

What happens during the visit?

  1. History and exam: Dr. Khalid reviews your symptoms, medical history, medicines and risk factors, and examines you.
  2. Testing, if needed: An EKG can be done in our office. Other tests, such as an echocardiogram, stress test or heart rhythm monitor, are performed or arranged by our office when they are appropriate. Each test answers a different question. For example, an EKG records your heart’s electrical activity at that moment and may not catch symptoms that come and go, and a normal result does not rule out every heart problem. See tests and treatments for more detail.
  3. A plan: Depending on what is found, the plan may include lifestyle changes, medicine, further testing, follow-up visits or a referral. Procedures that require a hospital are scheduled at an affiliated hospital, and our office will explain where.
  4. Follow-up: Our office will let you know how your results will be shared and when to return.

What should you bring?

  • Photo ID and insurance card(s), if you have insurance
  • A list of all your medicines and doses, or the bottles themselves
  • Any recent test results, EKGs, hospital discharge papers or referral letters
  • A short note of your symptoms: when they started, how long they last and what brings them on

Emergency room, urgent care or cardiology office: which is right?

  • Call 911 / emergency department: possible heart attack or stroke symptoms, fainting with chest pain or a racing heartbeat, or any symptom that feels like an emergency. Emergency departments can run blood tests and continuous monitoring that an outpatient office cannot.
  • Cardiology office: heart concerns that are stable and not an emergency, follow-up after an emergency visit or hospital stay, abnormal test results, and ongoing care for conditions such as high blood pressure or atrial fibrillation.
  • Your primary care clinician: general health concerns, routine checkups and many non-heart symptoms. They can also refer you to a cardiologist.

If you are not sure where to go, call our office during business hours and describe your symptoms. If our staff thinks you may need emergency care, they will tell you to call 911.

How should you prepare if testing might be done?

Wear comfortable clothing and a top that is easy to remove for EKG stickers. If a stress test or other test is scheduled, our care team will give you specific instructions about eating, caffeine and medicines beforehand. Do not stop or change any heart medicine on your own; follow the specific instructions from your care team. Results are reviewed by Dr. Khalid, and our office will explain how they will be shared with you.

Emergency?

When Should You Call 911 Instead?

Our offices are not equipped to provide emergency care. Call 911 for possible heart attack symptoms: chest discomfort that lasts more than a few minutes or goes away and comes back; shortness of breath; discomfort in one or both arms, the back, neck, jaw or stomach; or a cold sweat, nausea or lightheadedness. Call 911 for possible stroke signs (F.A.S.T.): face drooping, arm weakness, speech difficulty. Call 911 even if the symptoms go away. Symptoms do not have to be severe to be an emergency.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q1: What heart conditions does Dr. Khalid evaluate and treat?
Dr. Khalid cares for adults with a wide range of heart and blood vessel conditions, including chest pain, heart failure, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, arrhythmias such as atrial fibrillation, and peripheral artery disease. Visits include both new evaluations and ongoing management.

Q2: When should I call 911 instead of coming to the office?
Call 911 for any possible heart attack or stroke symptoms, such as chest discomfort that lasts more than a few minutes or comes and goes, shortness of breath, discomfort in the arms, back, neck, jaw or stomach, a cold sweat, nausea or lightheadedness, or sudden face drooping, arm weakness or trouble speaking. Call even if the symptoms go away. Our offices provide outpatient care for concerns that are not emergencies.

Q3: Can I be seen the same day?
Sometimes, depending on the schedule. Please call ahead before visiting so our staff can tell you whether a same-day evaluation is possible and which office to go to.

Q4: Can I visit if I don’t have health insurance?
Yes, self-pay patients can be seen. Call before your visit to ask about the cost of the office visit and to request an estimate for any testing.

Q5: Do I need a referral?
Some insurance plans require a referral or prior authorization to see a specialist. Check with your plan or call our office; coverage is verified individually.

Q6: I was recently seen in an emergency room. Can I follow up here?
Yes, you can request a follow-up visit. Bring your discharge papers and any test results, or ask the hospital to send them to our office.

Q7: What if my symptoms come and go?
Symptoms such as palpitations or lightheadedness may not be present during your visit, so a short note of when they happen, how long they last and what you were doing is very helpful. If needed, Dr. Khalid may recommend a heart rhythm monitor that records over a longer period, such as a Holter monitor. Chest discomfort that comes and goes can be a heart attack warning sign; call 911 if you have it now.

Q8: Which office will I be seen at?
Adnan Khalid, MD is the practice’s cardiologist and sees patients at our offices. When you call, our staff will tell you which office has availability and confirm the hours for that location.
