Fast Evaluation for Racing Heart, Fluttering, Skipped Beats & Heart Rhythm Concerns
Heart palpitations can feel frightening, especially when your heart suddenly starts racing, pounding, fluttering, skipping beats, or beating irregularly without warning. Some people describe heart palpitations as a flip-flopping sensation in the chest, while others experience a rapid heartbeat, pounding pulse, dizziness, chest discomfort, anxiety, weakness, or shortness of breath. In some cases, heart palpitations may occur occasionally and be harmless, but in other situations they can signal an underlying heart rhythm disorder that requires medical attention.

Our experienced cardiology team evaluates the cause of abnormal heart rhythms using advanced cardiac testing, heart monitoring technology, and personalized cardiovascular care designed to identify underlying rhythm disorders and protect long-term heart health.

Fast Evaluation for Racing Heart, Fluttering, Skipped Beats & Heart Rhythm Concerns
Heart palpitations are sensations that make you unusually aware of your heartbeat.
Some people feel their heart pounding hard in the chest, while others notice fluttering, racing, skipped beats, or irregular rhythms. Palpitations can occur during activity, stress, exercise, rest, after eating, while lying down, or even during sleep.
Heart palpitations may feel like:

- Skipped heartbeats
- Fast pulse
- Thumping heartbeat
- Pounding heartbeat

Irregular Heartbeat
What Is an Irregular Heartbeat?
An irregular heartbeat, also called arrhythmia, occurs when the heart beats too fast, too slow, or unevenly. The heart depends on an organized electrical system to maintain proper rhythm and circulation. When electrical signals become disrupted, abnormal heart rhythms may occur.
Some arrhythmias are mild and manageable, while others may increase the risk of stroke, blood clots, heart failure, or sudden cardiac complications if left untreated.
Types of Irregular Heart Rhythms
Atrial Fibrillation (AFib)
A common irregular rhythm causing rapid and chaotic heartbeats that may increase stroke risk.
Atrial Flutter : A fast rhythm disorder involving abnormal electrical activity in the upper heart chambers.
Tachycardia : A heartbeat that becomes abnormally fast.
Bradycardia :A heartbeat that becomes too slow.
Premature Ventricular Contractions (PVCs) :Extra heartbeats causing skipped beat sensations.
Supraventricular Tachycardia (SVT): Episodes of sudden rapid heartbeat often causing dizziness or chest discomfort.
Our Coverage
When Should You See a Cardiologist for Heart Palpitations?
You should schedule a cardiology evaluation if heart palpitations become frequent, severe, sudden, or begin affecting your daily activities and overall well-being. While occasional skipped beats or mild fluttering sensations may not always indicate a serious condition, persistent or recurring symptoms can sometimes be linked to underlying heart rhythm disorders, cardiovascular disease, circulation problems, high blood pressure, or other medical concerns that require professional evaluation. It is especially important to see a cardiologist if you experience frequent racing heartbeat episodes, repeated fluttering sensations in the chest, irregular pulse, skipped heartbeats, chest pain with palpitations, shortness of breath, dizziness, fainting, weakness during episodes, or sudden rapid heartbeat while resting. Individuals with high blood pressure, a family history of heart disease, prior cardiac conditions, or worsening symptoms should not ignore these warning signs. Early cardiology evaluation and heart rhythm testing can help identify the exact cause of symptoms and determine whether they are related to arrhythmias, atrial fibrillation (AFib), cardiovascular disease, or other heart-related conditions requiring treatment.
