Cardiologist Serving Katy, Sugar Land, Greater Houston

Self-Pay Heart Care Without Insurance

Self-Pay Cardiology Care in Katy and Sugar Land, TX

Do you need to see a cardiologist but have no insurance, a high deductible or limited coverage? Advanced Cardiology offers self-pay options at our Katy and Sugar Land offices, and patients from across the Houston area visit us. Call before your visit to confirm current prices.

Self-pay patients can be seen for a cardiovascular evaluation, preventive heart risk assessment, follow-up care and certain diagnostic tests. Our staff can explain the current self-pay price for each service and give you an estimate before your visit.

If you have insurance with a high deductible, you can ask our staff to verify your coverage and compare it with the self-pay price, since the better option depends on your plan. Payments made outside your insurance may not count toward your deductible, so check with your plan if that matters to you.

Whether you have chest discomfort, shortness of breath, high blood pressure, palpitations, dizziness or leg swelling, or want to understand your heart disease risk, our board-certified cardiologist, Adnan Khalid, MD, can evaluate your concerns and recommend a plan that fits your needs.

Self-Pay Cardiology

What Does Self-Pay Cardiology Care Include?

Self-pay care is available for patients who do not have insurance, have limited coverage, or prefer to pay directly. Services include cardiology consultations, an EKG in our office, follow-up visits, and certain diagnostic tests that are performed or arranged by our office.

Depending on your needs, Dr. Khalid may recommend tests such as an echocardiogram, carotid Doppler ultrasound, abdominal aortic ultrasound or an exercise stress test. Each test answers a different question, and not every patient needs every test.

Self-pay prices vary by service. Please call our office to confirm current prices, ask for an estimate for any recommended testing, and schedule your visit. Lab work, imaging done at another facility and hospital-based care are usually billed separately.

Prevention-Focused Heart Care

Why Does Early Heart Care Matter?

Finding and treating risk factors early, such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol and diabetes, can help lower the chance of:

Heart attack
Stroke
Heart failure
Worsening artery blockages
Other long-term heart and blood vessel problems

If cost has kept you from seeing a cardiologist, a self-pay visit can be a way to get your symptoms or risk factors evaluated before a problem becomes more serious. Bringing recent blood pressure readings, lab results and a medication list can make your visit more useful. Learn more about heart disease risk assessment.

Self-Pay Cardiology Prices

Initial Cardiology Consultation – $200

A first visit with Dr. Khalid typically includes:

  • A review of your symptoms, medical history, medicines and family history
  • A physical examination, including a blood pressure check
  • An electrocardiogram (EKG/ECG) in our office, which records your heart’s electrical activity and rhythm at that moment
  • A discussion of possible causes and recommendations for next steps

This visit may be helpful if you have chest discomfort, shortness of breath, high blood pressure, palpitations or an irregular heartbeat, unexplained fatigue, dizziness, leg swelling, high cholesterol or other heart disease risk factors.

An EKG is a useful first test, but a normal EKG does not rule out every heart problem. Additional testing, if recommended, is priced separately.

Self-Pay Cardiology Prices

Follow-Up Cardiology Visit – $80

Follow-up visits help you keep managing your heart health over time. A follow-up visit may include:

  • Reviewing your symptoms and blood pressure readings
  • Discussing test results
  • Adjusting medicines
  • Lifestyle guidance for diet, activity and quitting smoking

Echocardiogram – $200

An echocardiogram uses ultrasound to create moving pictures of your heart. It can show:

  • How well your heart muscle pumps
  • How your heart valves open and close
  • Whether the heart chambers are enlarged or the walls are thickened
  • Fluid around the heart and some structural heart problems

A resting echocardiogram does not show the coronary arteries directly and cannot by itself rule out blockages in them. Learn more about echocardiography and Doppler studies.

Carotid Doppler Ultrasound – $200

A carotid Doppler ultrasound looks at blood flow in the carotid arteries in your neck, which carry blood to the brain. It can help show:

  • Plaque buildup in the carotid arteries
  • Narrowing that may reduce blood flow to the brain

Dr. Khalid may recommend it after a stroke or mini-stroke (TIA), when an abnormal sound is heard over the neck arteries, or in other situations based on your history. It is not a routine screening test for everyone.

Abdominal Aortic Ultrasound – $200

This ultrasound looks at the abdominal aorta, the main artery in your belly, to check for:

  • An abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA), which is a bulge or enlargement of the aorta
  • Other changes in the size or shape of the aorta

Whether this test is appropriate depends on factors such as age, sex, smoking history, family history of aneurysm and other vascular disease. Dr. Khalid will discuss whether it makes sense for you.

Exercise Stress Test – $100

An exercise stress test records your heart’s rhythm, heart rate and blood pressure while you walk on a treadmill. It can help evaluate:

  • Chest discomfort or shortness of breath that happens with activity
  • Whether the heart may not be getting enough blood flow during exercise
  • Heart rhythm changes with exertion and your exercise capacity

A standard exercise stress test does not use a radiotracer and does not show images of the arteries. It can miss some blockages or show changes that turn out not to be from a blockage, so further testing may be needed. Other types of stress tests are priced separately. Learn more about exercise stress testing.

Who May Choose Self-Pay Cardiology Care in Katy and Sugar Land?

Self-pay care may be an option for:

  • Patients without insurance
  • Patients with high deductibles
  • Self-employed people and small business owners
  • Visitors and patients between insurance plans
  • Patients who want a second opinion
  • Adults who want a preventive heart risk evaluation

How does a self-pay visit work?

  1. Call our office at (713) 258-6111 and let us know you will be paying directly. Ask for the current price of the visit and confirm which office and time work for you.
  2. Bring your information: photo ID, a list of all your medicines and doses, and any previous test results or hospital records.
  3. See Dr. Khalid: he reviews your history, examines you and explains what he thinks is going on and what, if anything, should be tested.
  4. Ask for an estimate before any recommended test, so you know what to expect and can decide together what to do first.
  5. Follow up to review results and adjust your plan.

Questions to ask before a test

  • What question will this test answer, and how will the result change my care?
  • Where will it be done, and will I receive a separate bill from another facility?
  • Is there a less expensive test that could answer the same question first?
  • How will I receive my results?
