Our Philosophy of Care

“During my training my mentor advised me to treat my patients like my parents with respect and dignity, at Advanced Cardiology we have taken this advice to heart.”

“During my medical school and training, I realized, despite all the advances in the field of medicine, heart disease is still the number one killer in America and many preventable conditions due to delayed presentation resulted in great harm to patients. My goal is to provide outstanding timely care to my patients, if there is an issue lets explore it rather than waiting on it.”

At Advanced Cardiology, we believe in service, prevention and timely evaluation. A central focus of the practice is understanding and preventing atherosclerosis – the buildup of plaque in artery walls – and slowing cardiovascular disease before it leads to complications such as heart attack, stroke, blocked arteries or heart failure.

In practice, that means asking about symptoms early rather than waiting, explaining what each finding means and involving patients in decisions about testing and treatment.

Cardiovascular Disease

Focused on Prevention and Long-Term Heart Health

Prevention is a major part of our philosophy. We work closely with patients to identify and manage major cardiovascular risk factors such as:

  • High blood pressure
  • Diabetes
  • High cholesterol
  • Obesity
  • Smoking and tobacco use
  • Sedentary lifestyle
  • Family history of heart disease

Controlling these risks early can lower the likelihood of heart attack, stroke, vascular disease and advanced heart failure. A prevention visit may include a review of blood pressure and cholesterol results, an estimate of your overall cardiovascular risk and a practical plan for lifestyle changes and, when appropriate, medication. Care and Services at a Glance

Advanced Cardiology cares for people at many stages of heart health, from those who simply want to understand their risk to those living with long-term heart conditions. Common reasons patients come to us include:

  • New or recurring symptoms such as chest discomfort, shortness of breath, palpitations, dizziness or leg swelling
  • An abnormal EKG, stress test or other result that needs a cardiologist’s review
  • Ongoing management of high blood pressure, high cholesterol, heart failure or atrial fibrillation
  • Heart evaluation before surgery, when a surgeon or primary care physician requests it
  • Follow-up after a hospital stay, heart procedure or cardiac event
  • A second opinion about a diagnosis or recommended treatment

If you are not sure whether your concern needs a cardiologist, your primary care physician can help you decide, or you can call our office and our team will help you find the right next step.

Office visits take place in Katy and Sugar Land, and EKGs can be done during an office visit. Other heart tests, such as echocardiograms, heart rhythm monitors and stress testing, are performed or arranged by our office based on what your evaluation calls for. Each test answers different questions, so Dr. Khalid recommends only the testing that fits your situation.

Procedures that require a hospital, including cardiac catheterization, angioplasty and stent placement, are scheduled at an affiliated hospital, and our office explains where and how to prepare. See our full list of cardiac tests and treatments.

Conditions we treat in Katy and Sugar Land

At both our Katy and Sugar Land offices, Dr. Khalid evaluates and manages a broad range of heart and blood vessel conditions using current evidence-based guidelines.

Led by Adnan Khalid, MD, our team is committed to personalized treatment plans, thoughtful use of diagnostic testing and patient-centered care. We take time to understand each patient’s health concerns and work closely with them to improve their heart health and overall well-being.

What to Expect at Your First Visit

Your first appointment is a chance for Dr. Khalid to understand the full picture. He will typically:

  • Review your symptoms, when they happen and what makes them better or worse
  • Go over your medical history, family history and current medications
  • Review prior test results, hospital records or referral notes
  • Perform a physical examination and, when helpful, an office EKG

He will then explain what he thinks may be happening, whether further testing makes sense and what the next step is. When tests are recommended, he explains what each one can and cannot show. Results are reviewed with you, and the plan is adjusted at follow-up visits as your health changes.

After your visit

Before you leave, our team can help schedule any recommended tests or follow-up appointments. Test results are reviewed with you, and if new questions come up after your visit, you can call our office.

Working With Your Other Doctors

Heart care works best when everyone involved shares the same information. Dr. Khalid works closely with primary care physicians, surgeons and other specialists, and with your permission, keeps your referring doctor informed about findings and recommendations. If you see doctors outside our practice, bring their names and contact details to your visit.

Common Questions About Our Practice

Do I need a referral to see Dr. Khalid?

It depends on your insurance plan. Some plans require a referral from a primary care physician, while others allow you to schedule directly. Our office can help you check what your plan requires.

Which office should I choose?

Dr. Khalid sees patients at both the Katy and Sugar Land offices, so most people choose the one that is easier for them to reach. Office hours can differ, so call to confirm the schedule for the location you prefer.

What should I bring to my first appointment?

Bring a photo ID, your insurance card, a list of all medications and supplements with doses, any prior heart test results or hospital records, referral paperwork if your plan requires it, and a list of the questions you want answered.

Will I need tests on the day of my visit?

Not always. An EKG may be done during the visit when it is helpful. Other tests are recommended only when they are likely to answer a specific question, and our office will give you instructions, including how to prepare and where the test will take place.

Should I stop any medications before a test or procedure?

Do not stop or change any medication on your own. Follow the specific instructions from your care team, who will tell you whether any medicine needs to be adjusted.

Is Advanced Cardiology an urgent care or emergency clinic?

No. We provide scheduled outpatient cardiology care. For possible heart attack or stroke symptoms, call 911.
