Missouri City Patients Are Seen at Our Sugar Land Office

Advanced Cardiology does not have an office in Missouri City. Patients from Missouri City generally see Adnan Khalid, MD, at our nearby Sugar Land office, 7102 Tarrington Ave, Suite 505; our Katy office at 410 W Grand Pkwy S, Suite 4D, is also available. Dr. Khalid provides heart evaluations, pre-surgery assessments, second opinions and ongoing care for heart and blood vessel conditions.

Visiting Us From Missouri City

Most Missouri City patients choose our Sugar Land office, and some prefer Katy when it better fits their day. Either way, you see the same physician and your records are shared across both offices.

To schedule, call (713) 258-6111 and let our team know your preferred location and the reason for your visit – for example, if you have a surgery date coming up. Hours can vary by office, so please call to confirm office hours for each location. Please call 911, not the office, for symptoms that could be an emergency; phone messages and online forms are not monitored for urgent problems.

Meet Dr. Khalid.

A first visit is unhurried and focused on your question. Dr. Khalid reviews the reason you were referred, your symptoms, medical and family history, medicines and any previous test results. He examines you and may record an EKG in the office. He then explains his assessment in plain language, whether further testing would help, and what he will send back to the doctor who referred you. If you have a procedure or surgery scheduled, bring the date and the surgeon’s contact information.

For a second-opinion visit, it helps to bring copies of the reports you were given, a list of the questions you want answered and, if possible, a family member or friend to help you remember the discussion.

Why Patients From Missouri City Are Referred

Many visits start with a specific question from another physician or from the patient. Common examples include:

  • “Is my heart ready for this surgery?” – a pre-surgery heart evaluation
  • “Do I really need this procedure?” – a second opinion on a recommended test or treatment
  • “What does this result mean?” – an abnormal stress test, EKG or echocardiogram
  • “What happens now?” – follow-up after a hospital stay for a heart problem
  • Ongoing symptoms such as chest discomfort, shortness of breath or palpitations

You do not always need a referral to see a cardiologist, but some insurance plans require one, and our staff can help you check. If your primary care doctor or surgeon is sending you, ask their office to forward the request and any recent results ahead of time.

What Happens During a Heart Evaluation Before Surgery?

Surgeons sometimes ask for a cardiology opinion before an operation, especially for people with known heart disease, symptoms or several risk factors. Current ACC/AHA guidance describes a step-by-step approach:

  1. Estimating risk: the type and urgency of surgery, your health conditions and your ability to do everyday activities, often using validated risk tools.
  2. Deciding on tests: stress testing is recommended only for highly selected patients. It is generally not needed for people at low risk, people with good exercise capacity, or low-risk procedures.
  3. Planning medicines: some medicines, such as blood thinners or SGLT2 inhibitors used for diabetes or heart failure, may need to be paused before surgery. Timing is individual – follow the specific instructions from your care team and never stop a medicine on your own.
  4. Coordinating care: Dr. Khalid shares his recommendations with your surgeon, anesthesia team and primary care doctor.

A cardiology evaluation does not guarantee that surgery will be risk-free. Its purpose is to identify problems that can be improved beforehand and to help your team plan the safest approach.

Second Opinions, Appointments and Insurance

A second opinion can help when a major procedure has been recommended, when a diagnosis is unclear or when you simply want another perspective. Dr. Khalid reviews your records and test images when available, examines you and explains whether he agrees with the plan, sees other options or recommends more information first. Please ask your other physicians to send records before the visit.

The practice accepts new patients. To request any type of appointment, call (713) 258-6111 or use our secure appointment request form.

  1. Insurance: Advanced Cardiology accepts most major insurance plans. Coverage is verified individually, and our staff can tell you whether your plan needs a referral or prior authorization.
  2. Forms: complete registration through the patient portal linked below.
  3. Bring: photo ID, insurance card, your medicine list and any recent records.
  4. Video visits: ask our office whether a video visit suits your situation; telehealth rules depend on where you are located during the visit.

Conditions

Conditions That Often Shape Surgical and Treatment Decisions

Some heart conditions change how surgery, anesthesia or other treatment is planned. Dr. Khalid evaluates and manages them so that your whole care team can make informed decisions.

Conditions frequently reviewed in these visits include:

Coronary artery disease: including people who have had a heart attack, stent or bypass surgery.
Heart failure: reduced pumping or stiff heart muscle that can affect fluid balance during and after surgery.
Heart valve disease: leaking or narrowed valves, sometimes first suspected because of a murmur.
Atrial fibrillation: an irregular rhythm often treated with blood thinners that need careful planning around procedures.
High blood pressure: which may need better control before elective surgery.
Pacemakers and defibrillators: implanted devices that may need a check or settings plan around surgery.

Having one of these conditions does not automatically mean surgery must be postponed. In many cases, the evaluation simply confirms that your condition is stable and gives your surgical team the information they need. In others, it identifies a problem worth treating first. Dr. Khalid will explain which applies to you and why.

Testing

Which Tests Might Be Ordered – and Which Might Not

More testing is not always better. Dr. Khalid recommends a test when its result could change your care. EKGs are done in the office; other tests are performed or arranged by our office, and our team will tell you where and when.

  1. EKG: shows heart rhythm and some signs of prior damage or strain. A normal EKG does not rule out coronary artery disease.
  2. Echocardiogram: ultrasound of heart pumping and valves; useful when a murmur or heart failure is suspected. It does not show the coronary arteries directly.
  3. Stress testing: used for selected patients, not routinely before surgery. Some stress tests use the EKG alone, some add ultrasound images and some use a small amount of radioactive tracer.
  4. Rhythm monitors: wearable recorders for symptoms that come and go.
  5. Cardiac catheterization: a hospital-based procedure using X-ray dye to view the coronary arteries, scheduled at an affiliated hospital when needed.

Your care team will give you instructions before each test, including whether to adjust any medicine.

Dr. Khalid reviews each result and discusses it with you, usually at a follow-up visit or by phone, and sends a summary to the physicians involved in your care. If you have a surgery date, let our team know so results can be shared with your surgeon in time to support planning.

Treatment

If You Need a Hospital-Based Procedure

Most treatment starts in the office with medicines and lifestyle changes. When a procedure is needed, it takes place in a hospital rather than in our office. Dr. Khalid is listed as affiliated with Memorial Hermann Katy, Sugar Land and Southwest hospitals; our office will explain which hospital is planned for you and how to prepare.

  1. Who it may suit: procedures such as angioplasty with stents, cardioversion or device implantation are considered when the expected benefit outweighs the risk for you. For blocked arteries, the choice between medicines, a stent or bypass surgery depends on many factors, not just how many arteries are narrowed.
  2. Preparation: you will receive individual instructions about eating, medicines and transportation.
  3. Recovery: recovery time varies by procedure and by person. Many people benefit from cardiac rehabilitation afterward.
  4. Follow-up: a visit after the procedure to review results, medicines and next steps.

For medicine refills between visits, use our prescription request page.
